Hurray!
On 5/11/15, the Department of Health and Human Services (ObamaCare) told insurance companies they HAVE to give ladies access to ALL federally approved methods of birth control. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Women’s groups have been reporting that IUD’s, Plan B, the patch, and the ring have been refused by many insurance companies. According to the White House, this is breaking the law.
Another positive step in the enforcement of some good bits of the Affordable Care Act.

… but what about us on grandfathered plans whose insurance only covers generics?
Which is great, except OTC-Lo has no generic.
Hello! Thanks so much for visiting The Insurance Mom!
The Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) mandate regarding coverage for birth control applies only to non-grandfathered plans… those plans purchased after the ACA was enacted 3/23/10. So sorry!
BUT… check out these cool sites for possible discounts on all sorts of prescriptions:
http://www.GoodRx.com
http://www.PharmacyChecker.com
AND… try doing a Google search for “name of drug, coupons” — you’d be surprised what’s available!

Thanks for the response. I know Anthem made some addendums to my coverage after the ACA went into effect, but coverage of brand names wasn’t one of them.
Hello again… there are ups and downs for staying on a grandfathered plan, cost being a big deciding factor. BUT… in exchange for a slightly lower-cost plan you’re taking more responsibility for some of your medical expenses. It’s a trade-off for sure. You’re choosing where to spend your money… in a lower cost plan and higher medical expenses, or a higher cost plan with less exposure to medical expenses.
Remember… insurance — health, auto, earthquake — is nothing more than a money management tool. You get to decide how to manage your money.
