Are YOU sick of paying an arm and a leg?

Hello, World Wide Web,

My lovely office elf saw this video on social media the other day.  It got quite a lot of hits, and brings up some things I keep hearing when people call my office.  People often ask, “why isn’t it easier to find out what medical costs COST?”  This young dad-to-be found out why NOT… give it a watch HERE.

So why not?  Well, folks, the medical industry has always functioned with a pay-no-attention-to-the-man-behind-the-curtain attitude.  Those things are hopefully shifting for the better.

In the meanwhile, do your own research and listen to your super smart and sassy Insurance Mom!

  1. Some insurance companies are now offering a price estimator.  While these numbers are not exact, they WILL help you have a general understanding of what it may cost.  AND it will also compare and contrast with hospitals and doctors in your area!
  2. Do telemedicine!  Lots of plans have embedded telemedicine.  This is for minor medical concerns only.  For a copay (and, if it’s not included in your plan, a low monthly fee) you can video chat with a doctor, they can call in prescriptions, and give you a medical exam.  They’re now offering therapy online too!  The Insurance Mom is a big fan of LiveHealthOnline.  Call or email us if you have questions!

How about you, my friends?  Have YOU had issues with unpredictable medical costs?  Share with me!

ColoradoCare… say WHAT!?

Hello, Friends of the Insurance Mom Interweb-sphere,

If you’re keeping current on the presidential candidates, you hear some shouts about a “single-payer”  health care system.  What does that mean, you ask?

Well, the short answer is (wait for it!) …  taxes would go way up but everyone would have access to health care.    What’s your opinion?   Is this a good trade-off?   Higher taxes for everyone in exchange for access to “free” (actually, pre-paid) medical care?   Do you trust your government to be good money managers with your (increased) tax dollars?

Smart brains in the insurance world think it’s very unlikely that a single-payer system would happen in every state, but Colorado is giving it a try and putting the single-payer model on its ballot this Fall.

Check out this interesting article on the pluses and minuses on this micro-example of some macro-ideas floating around in our country.…

TrumpCare vs. HillaryCare

Hello Insurance Mom Village,

Regardless of who you’re voting for in November (and you WILL vote, right?), it’s important to know the positions of the candidates.

Here are some of the health insurance fantasies of the presumptive front-runners.  I fell over this attention-grabbing piece on “TrumpCare” AND a clever, historical piece from NPR on “HillaryCare.”   Give each a read and let me know what you think!

If you’re feeling extra political, check out this petition to save health insurance brokers.   Since the Affordable Care Act, commissions have been slashed by almost 90%!   If things don’t change, your broker will get out of the health insurance business.   You will be all on your own.  Give it a read and sign if you agree… support your Insurance Mom and her broker compatriots!

All of you Californians, our primary is June 7th.  Get yourself registered and VOTE!
